For the first year the Media Week Awards included the Media Leader of the Year award in partnership with The Lighthouse Company and we are thrilled that this inaugural award went last night to the brilliant Mike Cooper, CEO of PHD Worldwide.
Mike has been CEO of this global media planning and buying agency for just over a decade, since 2007. The performance of PHD in that time has been driven by the leadership and stewardship of Cooper; his passion for media and determination to win continue to shine through.
Under his leadership, PHD won the $3billion Volkswagen Group media account in 2016. The network has since enjoyed even more success, winning HSBC’s $400m global media earlier this year, on top of extending its footprint in businesses such as Ferrero, GSK and Delta. PHD also won more Media Lions than any other network at this year’s Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
With 155 account wins, PHD has been recognised as the top performing media agency in 2018 for new business, in a league published by global consulting firm R3 Worldwide. Cooper has grown the PHD network to encompass over 6,000 employees in more than 80 countries. Having created a ‘challenger brand at scale’, Cooper has also retained much of the culture that makes PHD unique and instilled this across the network.
